Shell's Martinez refinery has been in operation since 1915. Throughout its history it has amassed a tradition of technical achievement and is currently one of the most advanced refineries in the world. While high technology and expensive equipment are important in the daily operation of the refinery, nothing is more important than our people. Most are highly skilled crafts persons and experienced operating personnel who work to make sure the refinery functions safely and efficiently, day and night. Safe facility operation and environmentally sound practices are two ways Shell's Martinez Refinery shows it cares for the area it serves. It's role in community affairs is another. Community outreach is a high priority. Our employees actively contribute to the quality of life in Martinez and the surrounding area. That contribution translates into thousands of hours of volunteer time. Our success can only be achieved by working together with the residents and businesses in our community to meet the challenges that lie ahead.
