MANUFACTURING 2010: Process Trends and tools organized by American Institute of Chemical Engineers Northern California Section [Symposium Home] [Program] [Registration] [Sponsors/Exhibitors] [Directions] American chemical engineers are in large part responsible for the unprecedented prosperity of the 20th Century, which is directly attributable to vastly expanded supplies of energy and the new materials that support manufacturing. The 2005 NorCal AIChE Symposium features entrepreneurs, economists, scientists and engineers who have brought this prosperity to the San Francisco Bay area, and who will continue to shape manufacturing here. Featured entrepreneurs include Pat Kennedy, CEO and founder of OSIsoft, who grew real time performance management of manufacturing processes into a business with world-wide reach. The Symposium luncheon keynote address features Randy Field, of Aspen Technology, and his talk “The Energy Future of the USA is Dependent on Chemical Engineering Superheroes.” Also featured on the program are talks by Clorox on the future of hypochlorite bleach and its manufacture, Shell Oil on projects at the Martinez refinery, Novellus Systems on semiconductor manufacture, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory on the risks and consequences of terrorist attacks on critical industrial infrastructure. A Genentech Senior Director will describe trends in biotech processing at Genentech’s Vacaville facility and a speaker from Alien Technology will describe how fluidic self-assembly went from a UC Berkeley lab to a Walmart supplier mandate for RFI (radiofrequency identification) tags. Economists from McKinsey and Company and the University of California Haas School of Business will discuss how economic trends affect manufacturing and employment in California and the Bay Area and how industry and government can work together to protect one million manufacturing jobs that are at risk. Manufacturing 2010 will provide you with insights into all of these topics and more, insights that you need to plan for your business and your career in the 21st Century. |
