Solazyme and Algae

When we hear the word algae, most of us think of that green scum that clouds fish tanks, lies in stagnant water, and is a great indicator of whether or not a swimming pools is properly chlorinated. As it turns out, many people are looking towards algae as being a source of fuel and nutritional products.

Solazyme is a synthetic biology company based in the bay area that is using these marine microbes to develop products such as biofuels, specialty chemicals and speciality ingredients. We are fortunate to have Jonathan Wolfson, Solazyme°Øs CEO, at our March meeting to discuss the future of algae.

Reservations requested by End of Day March 18, 2008.

Buffet style dinner - choice of salmon, grilled tri-tip, or tortellini pesto primavera
