Abstract
Interested in knowing the future? Joe will describe his career path and provide insight into the biotech
world from a global perspective. An eye-opener for those considering the biotech industry and/or life in a startup... the
successes, the perils, the experiences, the technical versus business side. What to look for and insignts about careeer
planning to reach your goals. Joe will illustrate through examples from his career path at Genentech and VaxGen.
Bio
Joe Seiwert III, Director, has been with VaxGen, Inc for almost 4 years, where he is responsible for the design, implementation/construction,
qualification/validation, and launch of the company's automation, process, utilities and IT systems for its BioPharm vaccine production and
quality control facilities. Joe also contributes to Vaxgen, Inc business and operations strategy. Joe played an instrumental role starting
the commercial Biotech industry in South Korea via the Celltrion joint venture. Before VaxGen, Inc Joe spent 12 years at Genentech, Inc. designing,
building, validating, and starting up automation and cGMP IT systems for major production facilities. During the first 7 years of his career he worked
with clients in the national labs and defense research agencies. Joe has a BS in Applied Physics from Xavier University and a Berkeley-Columbia MBA.
